2010 Major disaster declaration for the State of Iowa (FEMA - 1880- DR) and Board of Review
On March 2, 2010, the head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Craig Fugate, announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for Iowa to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by severe winter storms during the period of January 19 -26, 2010. On March 25, 2010, the notice of major disaster declaration for the State of Iowa was amended to include Boone County as well as other counties.
Iowa Code Section 441.37(1) provides:
In any county which as been declared to be a disaster area by proper federal authorities after March 1 and prior to May 20 of said year of assessment, the board of review shall be authorized to remain in session until June 15 and the time for filing a protest shall be extended to and included the period from May 25 to June 5 of such year.
Petitions to the Board of Review must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service or delivered to the assessor's office on or before Jun 7, 2010.
